In Season Salmon Bidding Platform
River Select Fisheries Cooperative is introducing an in-season bidding platform for qualifying salmon fisheries. The platform was developed by the Coop to provide a third-party cash buying forum for commercial fishing enterprises and their fishers to sell, cash flow, and broker local salmon harvests that are destined to commodity markets.
The forum is open to licensed fishing enterprises and brokers who wish to bid on their harvest of salmon coming from small commercial salmon fishing enterprises around BC.
The goal of the service is to create transparency in transactions, fairness and uniform standards for bidding activities, and keep distance between the buyer and the local fishing enterprise doing business in order to reduce conflict between buyers and local stakeholders living within fishing communities.
The Coop is also committed to quality and traceability. We provide logistics between landing sites and the processing plants to ensure the highest standards of handling, and protect production traceability by maintaining a trail of control documents between the fishery and the market place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the benefits of the bidding platform?
The bidding platform was created for fishers/fishing enterprises to create a fair, responsible and efficient trade environment for salmon, and it saves time and money for everyone.
How do I know where the fish came from?
All fish are guaranteed traceable to the licensed fishery, fishing enterprise, and landing date. All back-up documentation is available and certifiable.
Are our fish sold shipping ready?
Yes. All salmon are sorted and iced for sale as whole or H&G, fresh or frozen (buyer preference) to promote uniformity, quality, and fair pricing.
Are all costs covered for my bidding price?
Yes. All costs for the product offering are included for shipping readiness. All bids are FOB the named Federally registered fish processing plant. The buyer is notified as product is ready for pick up.
What costs are included in the service for the fishers/fishing enterprises?
The Coop incorporates costs of logistics between the fishery and primary processor (ice, totes, trucking, processing, freezing and handling), as well as a competitive broker fee of 6% – the savings are passed on to the fishers/fishing enterprises.
Can I reduce my costs by providing community fishery support?
No thank you. Our Cooperative is also a broker of equipment and support among fishing communities that helps them support one-another. The greatest attribute of the bidding platform is its role as a responsible third-party brokerage that eliminates kick-backs, side-deals, and inducements that can cause conflicts between fishers, families and communities who share the fishery.
Is there a cost for non-coop members to use the platform?
Yes. An introductory offer of 2% brokerage fee for non-members is assessed each sale to defray the costs of managing the service.
