Our Wild Salmon Label
Our Wild Salmon Label
This video below shows where to find the information on our Wild Salmon fillets labels and our compliance with Canadian and international regulation on seafood labeling. Our River Select Fisheries Cooperative was created to promote the unique qualities of each fishery and our “Buy Local” message as the foundation of sustainable salmon fisheries. Our QR-coded labels authenticate each product along regulatory requirements but also connects consumers to the fishery’s stories, real images, and art for a healthy food experience that goes beyond anything you have ever experienced.
The purpose of labeling
The purpose of labeling is to inform consumers about products and its contents. It helps to protect consumers and provide a basis for an informed buying decision, also prevents frauds, misrepresentation and unfair competition. As an example: having the information of the scientific name of the fish on the labelling, would mean that this detail would not change along the supply chain, a detail that would be very important for product verification, as it wouldn’t change when a seafood product travels through the supply chain, when the common name can also change at each exchange until the point of sale causing mislabeled products and misleading product offers to the final consumer.
When purchasing products, consumers rely on labels to clearly and accurately describe what is being offered for sale, which company is offering to bring trust to the customer and inform vital details that may affect their health so they can make informed purchase decisions regarding their needs and possible health precautions.
For thousands of years, British Columbia’s First Nations have managed this sacred resource. Now, for the first time, premium, wild BC River Salmon is available directly from these communities through the River Select Fisheries Cooperative.
